On the fifth death anniversary of Sushma Swaraj, India’s first woman External Affairs Minister renowned for her idealism and integrity, BJP leaders gathered to honour her memory.
The event took place at Veer Savarkar Park in Lodhi Colony, led by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj. They offered floral tributes to her photograph and planted 21 trees as part of the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign. This initiative commemorates Swaraj’s dedication to national service and her significant role in BJP’s growth.
Reflecting on Swaraj’s legacy, Sachdeva said, “Today, we are planting trees in the honour of Sushma Swaraj. She was like a mother to all of us, and this gesture is a tribute to her enduring impact. Her thoughts and personality continue to inspire us, teaching us to maintain civility even in opposition. Her life was dedicated to the service of society, and we, as her followers, should strive to do the same.”
Bansuri, daughter of Sushma Swaraj, said, “Today marks five years since Krishna took my mother away from me. Some griefs are so deep that time cannot heal them... We planted a tree at Veer Savarkar Park in my mother’s memory. I feel her blessings in the presence of every BJP worker here, and I offer my deepest respects to all of them.”
