The Delhi BJP has raised concerns regarding the situation confronting Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) workers, who are grappling with delayed salary payments.
Led by spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the party says over 28,000 teachers and Grade A and B employees have been awaiting their January wages.
He highlighted the irony of a celebratory function organised by the Mayor of Delhi in July 2023 to commend Kejriwal for his commitment to timely salary payments, only for employees to subsequently face prolonged delays. “This recurring delay in salary disbursement has inflicted immense financial strain and uncertainty upon MCD employees,” said Kapoor.
The plight extends beyond Grade A and B employees, with 351 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers transferred from the Delhi Government to MCD in July 2023 enduring eight months without salary payments. Thousands of contractual employees, including gardeners, watchmen, data entry operators and DBC workers, are grappling with unpaid salaries from December 2023.
Kapoor criticised the AAP government for its failure to deliver on promises of rapid development, landfill site cleaning, improved sanitation and timely salary disbursements. “The AAP’s governance has disappointed both Delhiites and MCD employees,” he asserted.
