New Delhi, July 9

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and senior BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely held a joint press conference on Tuesday, criticising the AAP government for its “inadequate” preparations for the monsoon season, which resulted in severe waterlogging after just 20 to 30 minutes of rain.

The press conference, conducted by media chief Praveen Shankar Kapoor, featured video clips showing the extent of waterlogging, particularly around the Delhi Municipal Corporation headquarters.

Sachdeva accused the Delhi Government’s Jal Board, Public Works Department, Flood Department and Delhi Municipal Corporation of squandering hundreds of crores in the name of cleaning drains. “The rain once again exposed the shortcomings of the AAP government in Delhi,” he said, showing videos of waterlogged areas across the city.

He criticised minister Atishi and Mayor Shelly Oberoi for their unfulfilled promises. “Atishi and Oberoi constantly claimed that Delhi is prepared for rains, but all claims were proven hollow by just a few minutes of rain,” Sachdeva said.

Listing areas such as ITO, Sangam Vihar, Burari, Deoli, Kishanganj, Chanderawal, Rajendra Nagar and Najafgarh, which experienced significant waterlogging, Sachdeva highlighted the repeated failures in these regions. “Only scams are happening in the name of cleaning drains in Delhi. The Delhi government should call an all-party meeting within 24 hours on the cleaning of drains and monsoon preparedness or be ready to face BJP’s protest,” he warned.

Sachdeva also criticised the inefficiency in the execution of drain cleaning, noting that out of 750 drains, only around 150 had been cleaned.

Lovely said, “Delhi has become a city where residents suffer year-round with water shortages in summer, waterlogging during rains and pollution in winter. If Atishi and Oberoi had spent as much time working as they did holding press conferences, the situation might have been better today.”
