The BJP has shifted its gear to an aggressive campaign for the Assembly elections with party’s bigwigs holding rallies in several parts of the city and attacking the incumbent AAP government, particularly over the Yamuna pollution issue.
On Thursday, top BJP leaders, including party chief JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister ML Khattar, Chief Ministers Devender Fadnavis and Hemanta Biswa Sharma and former Minister Anurag Thakur, took part in several public meetings where they vowed to wrest power from the AAP.
Shah, while campaigning in Rohini for Vijender Gupta, responded to AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s accusations of poisoning the Yamuna by saying the latter has already sensed his imminent defeat as he was not himself able to clean the river in the past five years.
“Kejriwal is making (such) excuses because he gave away the money meant for cleaning the Yamuna to AAP’s corruption,” Shah said, adding Kejriwal was resorting to petty politics sensing his (party’s) defeat in the election.
He alleged that the AAP government under Kejriwal’s leadership allowed the Yamuna to get polluted and forced Delhi people to drink its “polluted” water.
Addressing a public meeting in Krishnanagar, party president Nadda criticised Kejriwal for denying Delhiites BJP’s welfare schemes and promoting “George Soros’ anti-national” agenda.
Nadda stated that AAP leaders called themselves ‘Kattar Imaandar’ but turned out to be ‘Kattar Beimaan,’ with their Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, minister and 5 MLAs all going to jail.
“These people once spoke of an education revolution and claimed global recognition, but instead of focusing on education, they were embroiled in a Rs 2,800 crore liquor scam,” he said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing a poll rally at Delhi Cantonment, launched an attack on AAP for “breaking” its promises like that of a Jan Lokpal and appealed to people in Delhi to vote for the BJP irrespective of the candidates.
“The BJP is the only party that has fulfilled all promises it had made in its manifesto... I would urge you to forget everything and vote for the BJP..Vote for the BJP in Delhi and don’t see who the candidate is. Your vote will be for Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Singh said.
Like his party colleagues, Singh assured that all schemes in Delhi will continue if the BJP comes to power. “The residents will also be able to get the benefit of Central schemes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana,” he said, adding that it would be implemented within 10 days of the formation of government.
The Defence Minister slammed Kejriwal for making baseless allegations on the Haryana Government for poisoning the Yamuna. “He is pitting people of Delhi and Haryana against each other. He is trying to create panic among the people. He does not deserve to be in politics,” he said.
