BJP workers burn Kejriwal’s effigy in Gurugram, Faridabad over Yamuna remark
Gurugram, January 28
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) units in Gurugram and Faridabad, following the lead of other state units, held protests against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal over his recent allegation that Haryana was supplying “poisoned water” to Delhi. Protesters burnt effigies of Kejriwal and demanded a public apology from him. The BJP claimed that Kejriwal, anticipating a defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, was attempting to divert public attention with baseless accusations.
On Monday, the AAP had accused the Haryana Government of intentionally dumping industrial waste into the Yamuna. Kejriwal alleged that the Haryana Government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, was “mixing poison” into the river, which he claimed could harm people. Around 100 BJP supporters gathered in Gurugram and Faridabad to voice their objections. “He says he is the son of Haryana, yet this is what he does? It has become his habit to level baseless allegations and blame others. He must apologise to both the people of Haryana and Delhi, as well as CM Saini, or face a defamation lawsuit,” said BJP leader Rambir Bhati, who led the protests in Gurugram. BJP leaders also argued that Kejriwal’s allegations were an attempt to undermine the rising influence of Haryana leaders in Delhi’s election campaigns. “Haryana leaders, including CM Saini, have become mascots of development in BJP-ruled areas. Their charisma is swaying voters, and AAP can’t digest it. Kejriwal is trying to create controversies to gain attention. He must retract his statement,” Bhati added. — TNS
