The BJP on Thursday released its final list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, announcing nine names.
Among the prominent candidates is Shikha Rai, who will contest from Greater Kailash against Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj. Shikha Rai, who previously contested from this seat, secured nearly 40 per cent of the votes in the last Assembly elections, with 43,563 votes compared to Bharadwaj’s 60,372 votes.
Other candidates named in the list include Anil Vashishth from Babarpur; Poonam Sharma from Wazirpur; Ravinder Kumar Indraj from Bawana; Bhuvan Tanwar from Delhi Cantonment; Chandan Kumar Choudhary from Sangam Vihar; Ravikant Ujjain from Trilokpuri; Sanjay Goyal from Shahdara; and Praveen Nimesh from Gokalpur. Notably, the Bawana, Trilokpuri and Gokalpur constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs).
Shikha Rai, a lawyer by profession, is currently serving her second term as a BJP councillor from Ward No. 173 in the Greater Kailash constituency. Rai has also held various leadership roles in the Delhi BJP, including minister, general secretary, vice-president and president of the Women’s Wing.
With this, the BJP announced candidates for 68 out of the 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi. The party allotted two seats — Burari and Deoli (reserved for SC) — to its allies.
While the Janata Dal United (JDU) will contest from the Burari seat, Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) will fight from the Deoli seat.
The JDU announced Shailendra Kumar as its candidate from Burari on Thursday.
