Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav on Saturday criticised the Delhi BJP leadership for what he termed a “mockery” of Chhath Puja preparations, referring to their so-called voluntary cleaning drive under the Yamuna Bank Metro Station.

Yadav said the exercise by Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva and other senior party leaders only highlighted the government’s “false claims” of preparing 1,500 Chhath ghats across the national capital.

“Delhi BJP president and other leaders have made a mockery of the Chhath Ghat preparations with their ‘voluntary cleaning drive’ under the Yamuna Bank Metro Station, which exposes the Rekha Gupta Government’s claim of developing 1,500 ghats for the festival,” Yadav said.

“Despite the BJP government’s claim that arrangements have been made for the Poorvanchal community to conduct Chhath Puja, the Delhi BJP president and senior leaders were seen joining a ‘voluntary cleaning drive’ to prepare the ghats under the Yamuna Bank Metro Station. This validates the Congress’ charge that the government has made arrangements at barely five ghats,” Yadav said, accusing the BJP of “anti-Poorvanchal bias.”

Calling the drive a “publicity stunt,” Yadav further accused the BJP leadership of ignoring the plight of families displaced by recent demolitions.
