Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, several prominent bodybuilders, wrestlers and fitness influencers joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) here on Thursday.

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal welcomed the new entrants — Tilak Raj, Rohit Dalal and Akshay Dilwari — in the party in the presence of Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.

“I am happy to welcome Tilak Raj, Rohit Dalal, Akshay Dilwari and around 70-80 bodybuilders and wrestlers in the AAP. It is important for all of us to stay healthy. Without health, everything else becomes meaningless,” Kejriwal said, stressing the role of sports professionals in promoting wellness.

Kejriwal further emphasised the contribution of new members, many of whom have represented India at the national and international levels. “Rohit, Tilak and Akshay have represented India in wrestling and other sports at the national and international level. They also train several young people and children in Delhi and inspire the general public to stay healthy through various training programmes.”

Rohit Dalal, who owns a gym chain in Delhi, said more gym owners from the city were expected to join the AAP in the coming days.

“Several gym owners from Delhi will join the AAP in the coming days. This will strengthen the party, particularly in elections, as gym owners can help us reach out to people who visit gyms for exercise,” Kejriwal said.

“After forming the government, we will work dedicatedly to resolve all issues related to sports, wrestling and gym associations,” he said.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, who also attended the event, praised the new members for their commitment to the party’s vision.

Tilak Raj, a celebrated wrestler, expressed his enthusiasm for joining AAP, saying: “No government so far has truly prioritised the sports community. For a long time, we have hoped to connect with a government that values athletes and supports their needs.”

Rohit Dalal also shared his gratitude, recognising the opportunities the party offers for the sports and fitness community.
