The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an assistant accounts officer (AAO) of the Border Security Force (BSF) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a contractor to clear pending bills, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, Dharmender Kumar Verma, was posted at the Public Accounts Office of the BSF and allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh — around 15-20 per cent of the total bill amount — to process the contractor’s outstanding payments, according to officials.
“After negotiation, the accused and other persons agreed to accept Rs 2 lakh from the complainant. The CBI laid a trap on July 18 and caught Verma red-handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 40,000,” a CBI spokesperson said.
