Budget holistic, takes care of all: BJP
New Delhi, July 23
The Delhi BJP expressed strong support for the 2024-25 Union Budget, describing it as a forward-thinking blueprint for the development of India, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed nation by 2047.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva praised the Budget’s increased allocations for the Awas Yojana, emphasising its role in ensuring homes for all. However, he criticised the Delhi Government for not implementing these Central housing schemes, saying, “It’s unfortunate that the increased investment in Awas Yojana is unlikely to benefit the poor of Delhi due to the Kejriwal government’s reluctance.”
He highlighted the Budget’s benefits for women and youth, noting the income tax relief for newly employed youth. “The 50 per cent standard deduction relief will benefit the salaried class,” he said.
He said while the Delhi Government sought 10 per cent of direct taxes collected from Delhi, equivalent to Rs 21,000 crore, the budget effectively returns almost 30 per cent through various allocations. “The direct budgetary allocation for Delhi is Rs 1,168 crore, besides Rs 11,180 crore for the operational costs of Delhi Police and Rs 220 crore for infrastructure development,” he added.
BJP MP from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri hailed the Budget as comprehensive, addressing every sector and section of society. “This Budget is a roadmap for a developed India. It will fulfil the vision and dream of a developed India by 2047,” he said.
Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal, who is also the secretary general of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), emphasised the budget’s support for the MSME sector. “Increasing the Mudra scheme limit to Rs 20 lakh is a milestone initiative that will strengthen the MSME sector,” he said.
Leader of Opposition in the MCD Raja Iqbal Singh described the Budget as a step towards making India an economic superpower. “This budget will increase self-employment opportunities across the country. By increasing the Mudra loan limit from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, the youth will be inspired towards self-employment,” he stated.
Countering Delhi Government’s criticism, Singh said, “The claim that the Central Government did not allocate enough budget to Delhi is a blatant lie. Thousands of crores have been allocated to Central Government hospitals and the operational costs of Delhi Police. The Centre has provided significant infrastructure and development projects to Delhi.”
