A 30-year-old cab driver was beaten to death in a fight that broke out over alcohol in the Udyog Vihar Phase 4 area. An FIR of murder was registered against two named accused and others at the Udyog Vihar Police Station.
According to the police, the deceased cab driver has been identified as Vikas Kumar, a native of Khagadia in Bihar. On Friday night, Vikas was at his friend Anil’s tea stall.
A young man named Titu came to the tea stall and started talking to Vikas about drinking alcohol. An argument broke out between them over money, Vikas pushed Titu, asking him to leave.
According to the police, at around 2.30 am, Titu returned with his brother-in-law Akash, and two other young men. All of them called Vikas from inside the slum and began arguing with him. As the fight escalated, they attacked him with sticks and bricks. He got seriously injured.
After getting the information, a police team reached the spot and rushed him to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead. On the complaint of his wife, an FIR was registered against Titu, Aakash and two others on Saturday.
“We have detained a suspect and are questioning him. We have handed over the body to the kin after the postmortem and a further probe is underway. All the accused will be arrested soon,” a senior police officer said.
