Capital shivers as November records coldest morning in three years
Minimum temperature drops to 9°C amid very poor air quality
The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 9°C on Sunday, dipping 4.5 degrees below normal and marking the coldest November morning in three years, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Despite the sharp morning chill, the day remained generally pleasant, with the maximum temperature settling at 27.5°C, about 1.9 degrees below the seasonal average.
This is the lowest November temperature since 29 November 2022, when the city logged a minimum of 7.3°C. In comparison, the coldest November morning in 2023 was 9.2°C (recorded on 23 November), while 2024 saw a low of 9.5°C on November 29.
The IMD has forecast shallow fog on Monday morning, with temperatures likely to hover around 25°C (maximum) and 9°C (minimum).
A similar trend is expected through the week, with minimum temperatures ranging between 9°C and 12°C, and daytime highs between 24°C and 27°C. Tuesday and Wednesday are predicted to be particularly chilly, with Tuesday likely to see a low of 10°C and a high of 24°C, while Wednesday may record a minimum of 9°C and a maximum of 25°C.
Meanwhile, air quality in the national capital remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 377, continuing the city’s prolonged spell of hazardous pollution.
