The Delhi High Court has withdrawn judicial work from Justice Yashwant Varma with immediate effect following the alleged discovery of a large stash of cash at his official residence.

The development comes after a fire incident at his home reportedly led to the revelation of the cash, prompting a high-level inquiry.

A note issued by the Delhi High Court on Monday confirmed the withdrawal of his judicial responsibilities. Another note on the court’s website stated that the court master of Division Bench-III, which was previously headed by Justice Varma, will now be responsible for assigning dates for cases that were listed before March 24.

The controversy gained momentum after the Supreme Court on March 22 made public an inquiry report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya.

The report, addressed to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, included photos and videos allegedly showing the recovered cash. In his findings, Justice Upadhyaya stated that the incident warranted a deeper investigation.

Justice Varma, however, categorically denied the allegations, asserting that neither he nor his family members placed any cash in the storeroom of his residence. He has called for a fair inquiry to the claims.
