The Delhi Police have busted a cheating racket in a government recruitment examination and arrested a dummy candidate, a school teacher, an office superintendent and a woman who allegedly orchestrated the impersonation at an exam centre in Greater Kailash.

The arrests were made in connection with the recruitment examination for the post of Junior Secretariat Attendant under the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Samiti held on May 18. The examination was conducted by the CBSE at a private school in Hemkunt Colony.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan, the case came to light when the school principal alerted the Greater Kailash police about a suspected impersonation attempt. Upon verification, Sumit Dahiya (29), a resident of Sonipat, Haryana, was found to be appearing in place of the real candidate, Ankur.

During interrogation, Dahiya revealed that he had been promised Rs 6 lakh by a middleman to act as a proxy. He roped in a 40-year-old woman from Kanjhawala, by offering her Rs 2 lakh to facilitate his entry, known for her connections with schools and arranging admissions through open boards. She allegedly paid Rs 50,000 each to Bimal Kumar Singh (59), a physics teacher, and Baljeet Singh (50), office superintendent, to facilitate the fraud.

Ankur’s original Aadhaar card and admit card, used for gaining entry to the exam centre, along with the filled OMR sheet, were recovered from Dahiya. The woman, the teacher and the superintendent coordinated closely on the day of the exam to ensure Dahiya could appear without raising suspicion, according to the police. Efforts are on to trace the original candidate, Ankur, and the middleman who brokered the deal.
