Ahead of the festive season, the Delhi Police launched Operation Kavach 10.0, carrying out simultaneous raids at 2,003 locations across all 15 police districts of the Capital to crack down on drug traffickers and other criminals.
The massive exercise involved 1,140 teams from police stations, Crime Branch and Special Cell units.
The crackdown led to the registration of 96 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the arrest of 120 drug peddlers.
The police seized 158.9 grams of heroin, 40.276 kilograms of ganja, 108 grams of cocaine and Rs 21 lakh in cash.
The operation also targeted illicit liquor networks with a total of 269 cases registered in connection with smuggling, resulting in the arrest of an equal number of accused.
The authorities confiscated 337 bottles of liquor, 33,310 quarters, 115 beer bottles and 278 beer cans. Additionally, 1,507 people were caught drinking in public places.
Action was also taken under the Arms Act, with 115 cases registered and 117 people arrested.
Notable seizures included 8.134 kg of ganja and over Rs 21 lakh in cash from a woman named Sangeeta Devi in Dwarka.
In Uttam Nagar, the police arrested a woman, Barkha, with 27 grams of heroin, while Vinod was nabbed with 2.7 kg of ganja in Ambedkar Nagar.
The Crime Branch intercepted a major consignment of contraband cigarettes, seizing 5,500 packets amounting to 1,10,000 sticks in Chandni Chowk, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh. In Rohini, 10,000 banned cigarettes were recovered from a paan shop.
Police officials said the primary objective of the Operation Kavach is to dismantle drug syndicates and protect youth from falling prey to substance abuse.
“The purpose of this operation is to save young people from the menace of drugs. While the police are working hard to stop the supply, society must also become aware and reduce the demand,” said Special CP (Crime) Devendra Chandra Srivastava.
