Class XII student jumps to death over ‘less’ marks

Was expecting 90% marks, scored 75%

In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old student, Shaurya Sandilya, allegedly took his own life by jumping from the 15th floor of the Tata Primanti society in Sector 72 on Wednesday.

Shaurya, a Class XII student at a private school in Sector 49, was said to be upset after scoring 75 per cent in the CBSE exam, while he had been expecting to achieve 90 per cent.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Shaurya’s father had left for work, leaving him at home with his mother. During this time, he took the lift to the 15th floor and jumped. Residents of the society heard the sound and immediately informed the police.

A police team arrived at the scene and rushed the injured student to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A senior investigating officer stated that Shaurya’s parents are in shock over the incident. They emphasised that they never pressured him regarding his academic performance.

Despite several attempts to reach him, Inspector Sudhir Kumar, Station House Office of Badshahpur police station, could not be contacted. However, Surender Phogat, ACP, Badshahpur, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway.
