CM Gupta inspects Chhath preparations in Dwarka

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday reviewed the ongoing preparations for Chhath Puja at the Pochanpur Chhath Ghat in Dwarka Sector-23B, assuring that devotees would face no inconvenience during the four-day festival.

Inspecting the site along with local MLA Sandeep Sahrawat and members of the Chhath Puja Committee, the CM directed officials to ensure cleanliness, lighting, water supply, sanitation, security and other necessary arrangements at all ghats across the city.

She said the Delhi Government’s preparations for Chhath Mahaparv had reached their final stage, with 17 model ghats being built along the Yamuna riverbank and over 1,000 Puja sites set up by local committees. “These model ghats will present an unprecedentedly grand and divine spectacle this year. By combining devotion with convenience, the entire city of Delhi will appear truly ‘Chhathmaye’,” Gupta said.

The CM also joined citizens in painting and decorating the ghat, saying such participation fosters a sense of community. “When elected representatives and citizens work together, a festival becomes a celebration of cultural unity and participation,” she remarked.

The CM reiterated that the government had been working at a war footing for the past eight months to clean the Yamuna, with visible progress now evident. “Our goal is to make the Yamuna clean and free-flowing, and this effort will continue until the river is fully restored,” she said, expressing gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for their cooperation in the joint cleaning drive.

To facilitate devotees, Gupta announced that Monday, October 27, would be a public holiday in Delhi for Chhath Puja. She noted that the third day of the festival, when devotees offer arghya to the setting Sun, holds the greatest significance.
