Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a midnight inspection of the ongoing road strengthening work on Outer Ring Road from Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk, underscoring her government’s commitment to improving Delhi’s road infrastructure.
Accompanied by MLA Deepak Chaudhary and senior PWD officials, CM Gupta assessed the progress and quality of construction, emphasising the need for timely completion of work before the onset of monsoon. She directed officials to maintain high standards and prioritise public convenience, ensuring no negligence in execution.
“Our government is making every possible effort to strengthen and improve Delhi roads. Today, we are overseeing the construction of a four-km road stretch to ensure high-quality execution and timely completion,” CM Gupta said.
The project, executed by PWD’s Northern Zone at a cost of Rs 12.85 crore, involves the use of advanced techniques such as cold milling and hot recycling for long-lasting durability. The road strengthening process includes a two-layer reinforcement — dense bitumen macadam (DBM) followed by dense bitumen concrete (DBC). Additionally, a 50-mm stone matrix asphalt (SMA) layer is being laid near the elevated flyover to enhance longevity.
To improve night-time visibility, thermoplastic paint, glow studs and median markers are being installed along the route. The existing road layers are also being removed through cold milling to maintain proper leveling.
CM Gupta reiterated her government’s pledge to make Delhi’s roads pothole-free before the monsoon. “All agencies concerned have been directed to complete road repairs and strengthening work before the rainy season to ensure smooth traffic movement and prevent inconvenience to commuters,” she stated.
