In a major push towards cleaner and more efficient urban mobility, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Azadpur DTC Bus Terminal and flagged off 40 new electric buses, marking another milestone in the capital’s ongoing transport modernisation drive.

Calling it a “historic transformation achieved within just eight months,” the Chief Minister said her government has already added 1,400 electric buses to Delhi’s fleet since taking office.

Gupta said the government is committed to building a world-class public transport network that is both environmentally sustainable and commuter-friendly.

“The public chose change, and the government has translated that mandate into development and service. Unlike previous administrations that neglected Delhi’s transport system, we are rebuilding DTC to be strong, efficient and financially sound,” she stated.

Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, who attended the inauguration along with MLA Rajkumar Bhatia and senior officials, said the revamped terminal represents a major upgrade in passenger experience. The facility now includes modern waiting lounges, a baby-feeding room, lockers, a dedicated bus pass section, CCTV surveillance, shaded walkways, solar panels, bio-digesters, and other commuter amenities.

The 40 newly introduced e-buses, featuring low floors, air-conditioning, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, and panic buttons, form part of the city’s wider initiative to cut air pollution and enhance safety. “We are continuously increasing bus availability according to route demand, and this process will continue at a faster pace,” Singh said.

With the opening of the redeveloped terminal, 116 buses — including several electric ones — will operate across 21 routes, improving connectivity and passenger comfort in North Delhi.
