Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched the ‘Healthy Delhi, Empowered Delhi’ campaign at the Delhi Secretariat while unveiling the finisher medal for the upcoming Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon 2025. Describing the event as more than just a sporting competition, Gupta called it a “social movement” to promote fitness, discipline and empowerment among citizens.
Scheduled to take place on October 12, the marathon is expected to attract thousands of runners from Delhi, across India, and overseas. Emphasising the need for greater women’s participation, the Chief Minister said, “Delhi now has a woman Chief Minister and I would like to see women participants outnumber men in this marathon.”
Calling the medal a symbol of courage, perseverance and commitment, Gupta said every runner’s effort would serve as an inspiration to society. She assured support from the Delhi Government to ensure the success of the event.
The event was attended by Ritu Jhingon, chairperson of the Anil Agarwal Foundation and head of business strategy at Vedanta, along with senior officials from IDFC First Bank and representatives of Procam International.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a healthier India — emphasising yoga, balanced nutrition and millet consumption — Gupta said the marathon aligns with the Fit India Movement launched in 2019. “This year, Delhi will run together,” she said, encouraging strong participation from women and youth.
Gupta also praised Vedanta’s efforts in promoting public health and expressed confidence the marathon would significantly contribute to making Delhi healthier and stronger.
