CM to propose MLA Bisht’s name for Dy Speaker post
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will propose BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht’s name for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly on Thursday, the third day of the session.
According to the list of business provided by the Speaker’s office, two separate motions will be moved to elect Bisht to the position.
The first motion will be introduced by CM Gupta and seconded by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The second motion will be proposed by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and supported by Gajender Singh Yadav.
Bisht, a six-time MLA and senior BJP leader, secured a significant victory in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, winning the Mustafabad seat by defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan with a margin of over 17,000 votes. Prior to this, Bisht represented Karawal Nagar in the Delhi Assembly multiple times, first winning the seat in 1988 and serving until 2015, before reclaiming it in 2020.
In addition to the election of the Deputy Speaker, the third day of the session will feature discussions under Rule 280, allowing members to raise matters with the Chair’s permission. The Assembly will also continue debating the CAG report on the regulation and supply of liquor in Delhi, which CM Gupta had tabled in the House on February 25.
