At the core of the discussion was a comprehensive 45-point action plan aimed at cleaning and revitalising the Yamuna. CM Gupta reiterated that ensuring clean and sufficient water supply for every citizen, along with efficient sewage management, is among her government's highest priorities.

“A clean and modern Delhi begins with access to clean drinking water and a pollution-free Yamuna,” she stated.

The Chief Minister emphasised that Yamuna rejuvenation is not only an environmental necessity but also an ethical commitment. She announced that Delhi’s approach will be multi-dimensional —focusing on drain and sewage treatment, expansion of sewerage networks and establishment of modern sewage treatment plants (STPs).

She said eight existing STPs in areas such as Okhla, Keshopur, Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli are being upgraded under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. Additionally, 13 new decentralised STPs (DSTPs) are in the pipeline, with 27 more planned for future rollout. Officials were directed to expedite construction works to ensure timely completion.

CM Gupta also highlighted the challenge posed by outdated water and sewer pipelines, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas. A district-wise infrastructure audit is underway to replace these pipelines with modern systems using advanced technology. All unauthorised colonies are to be connected to water and sewer lines by December 2027.

In a significant infrastructure push, the CM revealed that 303 drainage projects are ongoing, with a total investment of Rs 8,000 crore. These include redevelopment of major drains, storm water network expansion, desilting efforts and modern pump house installations. She directed that storm water from unauthorised colonies must not enter the sewer network and asked departments to submit a separate plan to address this.

To enhance public engagement, CM Gupta announced a large-scale awareness campaign on Yamuna conservation and pollution prevention. She stressed the importance of citizen participation and urged Delhiites to treat the Yamuna as a shared heritage.

To ensure transparency and direct accountability, the Chief Minister also declared that she will personally inspect the Yamuna’s rejuvenation works every month. “I will visit various stretches of the river regularly and review on-ground progress,” she said.

The meeting also reaffirmed Delhi’s commitment to the “Har Ghar Nal Se Jal” initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the CM stating that the Capital will serve as a national model in equitable water distribution and efficient management.
