CM unveils key infra projects, reaffirms commitment to slum dwellers’ welfare

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday reiterated her government’s commitment to improving the living conditions of slum residents, announcing a special allocation of Rs 700 crore for slum development through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). The announcement came during her inspection and inauguration of multiple development projects in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency.

“Our government is fully committed to ensuring all basic amenities for slum residents. The projects inaugurated today reflect our vision for a prosperous and progressive Delhi,” said CM Gupta, following a day-long inspection of civic and infrastructure works across the constituency.

Accompanied by senior officials from departments such as PWD, DJB, MCD, DDA, IFCD, and Tata Power Limited, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing projects related to water supply, roads, sanitation, drainage, electricity, and other essential services. She directed officials to ensure timely completion of works, maintaining strict quality standards.

Among the major projects inaugurated was the completion of redevelopment in 40 lanes of the Ayurvedic Camp area, executed by DUSIB. Gupta said the newly finished works mark a shift from neglect to transformation in slum clusters. “The previous government only saw slum residents as vote banks. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we are delivering real change on the ground,” she said.

The Rs 700 crore budget allocation, according to the Chief Minister, is part of a broader initiative to provide clean and safe housing, paved roads, efficient drainage, schools for girls, clean drinking water, and children’s play areas in slum settlements.

The Chief Minister also highlighted several area-specific developments. At Singalpur Chowk, the central verge of Gyanshakti Road has been beautified to improve traffic flow and aesthetics. In BC (East), DJB has laid a new water pipeline at the UGR to boost water pressure and supply, while MCD has completed construction of two new lanes (House Nos. 17–32 and 49–64) and installed speed breakers for better traffic management. Similarly, in Ambedkar Nagar, the IFCD has constructed three new lanes (Gali Nos. 5, 9, and 11), and speed breakers have been installed in BB (East).

In Shalimar Village, the Chief Minister directed MCD to carry out repairs in Lane No. 1, and in DA Block, a joint inspection was conducted involving officers from DDA, DJB, MCD, PWD, and the electricity department to work toward integrated urban solutions. In Haiderpur, CM Gupta inspected the cremation ground road and instructed MCD officials to carry out essential improvements.

Speaking to the media, CM Gupta emphasized that development must reach every street and neighborhood. “We’re working tirelessly to ensure that every citizen, regardless of where they live, enjoys a dignified, beautiful, and comfortable life,” she said.

Today’s inspection, she added, was not just about inaugurations but also about understanding people’s concerns firsthand to ensure swift redressal. “Grassroots development is our mission—and we’re on the ground to deliver it,” the CM concluded.
