She interacted with families staying in camps, listened to their concerns and assured them of all necessary support.
The Chief Minister said there was no need to panic as the government was maintaining round-the-clock vigilance. She directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply of food, drinking water, medical aid and safe shelter, stressing that the safety and health of residents remained the administration’s top priority.
Gupta said the water released from the Hathni Kund Barrage was expected to reach Delhi by Tuesday evening. The departments concerned had made “extensive preparations” in advance.
“Desilting of the Yamuna and drains over the past six months has already shown significant results. The river is flowing freely, with water moving downstream as swiftly as it enters the course,” she said, clarifying that water level was not expected to surpass previous records.
The Chief Minister said water entering the Yamuna floodplains was part of the river’s natural course and assured citizens that outer areas faced no immediate risk of flooding. She appealed to people to cooperate with the authorities and follow safety guidelines.
Earlier in the day, Gupta also held telephonic conversations with the Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana, expressing concern over the severe flood situation in their states. She assured them that the Delhi Government stood with them in solidarity and was prepared to extend assistance if required.
