College library gutted in Pitampura

No casualties reported, morning exams cancelled

A massive fire broke out in the library of the Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (SGGSCC) in Pitampura area here on Thursday morning, leading to the cancellation of semester exam scheduled for the morning session. There was no report of any injuries or casualties in the incident.

Sharing details, a senior Fire Department official said a call regarding the fire at the library was received at 8.56 am. After getting information, 11 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

“The fire broke out in the first floor of the library and later engulfed the second and third floors,” Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes.

“There was no loss of life in the incident,” the official said.

Officials of the SGGSCC, a constituent college of Delhi University, said the fire broke originated from a short circuit in the library’s server.

“The morning session examination for May 15 at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce stands cancelled. The alternative date and schedule will be notified shortly,” a college official said.
