The Congress today said it did not agree with a recent apex court order on SC and ST reservations in public posts where the court rules that such quotas were not part of the fundamental rights of the prospective beneficiaries. The order came in a matter in between Uttarakhand Government and a person from the reserved community.

Addressing reporters on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti today, Congress general secretary Mukul Wasnik said the party humbly disagreed with the SC order which left it to the wisdom of states to see if quotas were required in public posts.

Wasnik alleged that Uttarakhand Government was represented in the court by people who have held top positions in the BJP government, including Mukul Rohatgi.

“The order is a reflection of the mindset of BJP. In the past RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Sangh leader Manmohan Vaidya have questioned the reservation policy. Everyone knows how PM Narendra Modi has written about SCs in his book Karamyogi. Now we see how the Uttarakhand Government, represented by people close to the BJP, got an order that says reservation in public posts is not a fundamental right. We do not agree with the SC here,” said Wasnik.
