Cong forced Ambedkar to resign as Law Minister: BJP
The BJP on Monday accused the Congress of forcing Dr BR Ambedkar to resign as Law Minister during the first General Elections.
“The Congress, which defeated Babasaheb in the 1952 Lok Sabha elections and the 1954 by-election and forced him to resign from the position of the Law Minister, is the same party that never awarded him the Bharat Ratna,” BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
A major controversy erupted last week over the remarks of Union Home Minister Amit Shah during Constitution debate in Parliament following which the Congress has opened an all-out attack on BJP and has been repeatedly demanding Shah’s resignation.
Prasad said the Congress politicised a small excerpt from the Home Minister’s speech and presented it out of context.
He said the Congress party has consistently disrespected, mocked and humiliated Ambedkar and is now pretending to demand rights in his name.
“They neither established nor allowed the establishment of memorials for Babasaheb. Congress should offer an unconditional apology to the entire nation for the disrespect shown to Babasaheb Ambedkar by its leaders and Pandit Nehru,” Prasad said.
The senior BJP leader further alleged that the Congress did not allow a single memorial to be built in Baba Saheb’s.
