Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday led the attack on the Congress over alleged involvement of one of its leaders in a drug haul in Delhi and described the development as “dangerous and shameful.”

The ruling BJP has alleged that Tushar Goyal, 40, arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell as the prime receiver and distributor of a large drug consignment worth Rs 5,600 crore, is a former Congress leader.

The Congress has, however, said Tushar Goyal was appointed as Delhi Youth Congress RTI Cell chief on March 24, 2022, and removed in October 2022.

”Show us the digital evidence of the termination letter of Goyal. We also want to ask the Congress whether this drug money was meant to fund Haryana elections,” BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said on Friday alleging that the Congress which stood for “corruption and confusion now also stands for cocaine.”

The Congress has denied links to Goyal.

Shah, leading the offensive against the Congress on the eve of Haryana elections, said, “At a time when the PM Narendra Modi-led government is adopting a zero tolerance policy toward drug peddling to achieve the goal of drug-free India, the involvement of a prominent Congress leader in the Rs 5,600 crore drug consignment seized from North India is extremely dangerous and shameful.

Everyone has seen the plight of youth in Punjab, Haryana and entire North India due to drugs during the rule of Congress. While the Modi government is taking the youth towards sports, education and innovation, the Congress wants to push them into the dark world of drugs.”

The Home Minister said the BJP government will never let the Congress realise its nefarious goals.

”Our government is committed to ridding India of drugs by rooting out all drug dealers irrespective of their political standing,” the HM said.

The BJP had yesterday released a March 24, 2022, appointment letter of Tushar Goyal as Chairman, RTI Cell of the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress.

The letter was signed by Ajay Meena, National Chairman of AICC RTI Department.

The Congress in response said Tushar was removed in October of 2022.

”Let them show us the digital proof that he was terminated in October 2022 and now recently after his involvement in the drug dealership came to the fore. We allege that the termination letter has been signed on the back date,” Bhatia said.

The Delhi Police have seized a huge cache of cocaine and hydroponic marijuana, a first for the city.

In the international market the price of recovered cocaine is Rs 10 crore a kg and of hydroponic marijuana Rs 50 lakh a kg.
