The Congress on Tuesday released its third list of 16 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. With this, the party has now declared candidates for 63 of the 70 Assembly seats in Delhi.
The party fielded former Union Minister Krishna Tirath from Patel Nagar. Tirath, former Delhi MLA and Congress MP from Northwest Delhi, has a long political career. She left the Congress in 2015 to join the BJP. Tirath returned to the Congress in 2019 and contested the 2020 Delhi elections on the party ticket.
The list also includes Dharam Pal Lakra, who earlier in the day left the AAP and joined the Congress. Lakra, sitting AAP MLA, will contest from Mundka.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lakra said: “I left the party due to growing differences within AAP. I hope the supporters will understand my move”. “I joined the Congress on the advice of all my colleagues in the Assembly,” he wrote.
The Congress has fielded party councillor Ariba Khan from Okhla. It also made a change in its candidate for the Gokalpur (SC) constituency, replacing Pramod Kumar Jayant with Ishwar Bagri.
