Congress mourns death of senior leader Jai Kishan
The Delhi Congress on Thursday mourned the demise of senior party leader and four-time MLA Jai Kishan, describing it as a profound loss to the party and the Dalit community in the Capital.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav called Jai Kishan a “pillar of the Congress” and a committed leader who fought tirelessly for the rights of Dalits and the underprivileged.
Jai Kishan, who was elected multiple times from the Sultanpuri Assembly constituency, was cremated at the Y Block Sultanpuri crematorium. His elder son Rahul Dhaka performed the last rites. The ceremony was attended by Devender Yadav, former MLAs, senior Congress leaders, and hundreds of party workers from Sultanpuri and across Delhi.
“The void left behind by Jai Kishan cannot be filled,” said Yadav, recalling his colleague’s contributions as secretary of the All-India Congress Committee and vice-president of the DPCC.
“He was always actively involved in party affairs and left an indelible mark through his decade-long public service.”
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also sent floral tributes. Kharge spoke to Jai Kishan’s wife Sushila Jaikishan over the phone to offer condolences and support during this difficult time.
