Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress on Thursday pledged a series of promises aimed at alleviating the financial burden on city residents.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, speaking at a press conference with AICC Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin and Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, declared that the party would provide LPG cylinders at Rs 500, free ration kits and 300 units of free electricity per family, if voted to power.

Reddy unveiled the fourth and fifth guarantees of the party’s electoral manifesto, stressing that these measures would help relieve inflation and ease the financial strain on households. He assured voters that the Congress, which fulfilled its promises within 13 months of coming to power in Telangana, would do the same in Delhi.

“The Congress guarantees will provide freedom from inflation and price rise, which have devastated families in Delhi. AAP and the BJP have ruined the lives of people with soaring prices,” said Reddy.

He further explained that LPG subsidy of Rs 500, monthly free ration kit consisting of five kg rice, two kg sugar, 1 litre edible oil, six kg pulses and 250 gm tea would help families facing financial hardships. Additionally, the promise of 300 units of free power per family aims to protect Delhiites from skyrocketing electricity bills.

“This will help people breathe easy without worrying about where their next meal will come from or how to pay inflated electricity bills,” Reddy added.

Devender Yadav, who led the Delhi Nyay Yatra, noted that the Congress had carefully considered the needs and concerns of residents during his month-long tour of all 70 constituencies. He further criticised the AAP’s 200-unit free power scheme, alleging that funds were misappropriated through power distribution companies due to Kejriwal’s refusal to audit their accounts.

“The party’s promise of 300-unit free power will be implemented transparently through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT),” Yadav promised.
