Thousands of Congress workers organised a demonstration against the BJP on Monday over the reported attack on Rahul Gandhi, allegedly by individuals identified as BJP supporters, in Assam.
The disruption of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam prompted KC Venugopal, the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), to issue a notice instructing all the Pradesh Congress Committees to stage protests against the BJP.
The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), conducted a silent protest in front of their office at Rajiv Bhawan. They initially attempted to demonstrate at the BJP’s main office but it was met with the intervention of the police.
Despite appeals from former Delhi Ministers Haroon Yusuf and Rajkumar Chauhan, the police reportedly threatened arrest if the Congress workers proceeded further.
Subsequently, Congress workers initiated a silent dharna in front of the DPCC office.
The protesters warned of an indefinite dharna at the BJP Headquarters if attempts were made to disrupt Rahul Gandhi’s peaceful march.
DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely slammed the BJP for “not following the principles of Lord Rama”. He said the reported attack was a sign of the BJP’s unease over the significant public support Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra was garnering across the country.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused the Congress of exhibiting an anti-Santan Dharam stance by boycotting Pran Pratistha Samaroh.
