In an operation that lasted for months, Delhi Police personnel honey-trapped one of the “most wanted” gangsters of the national capital after posing as a Mumbai-based model on Instagram and ultimately luring the criminal into their trap.

The gangster, identified as Manoj Kumar, alias Arjun, a native of Haryana’s Mahender Garh, has already been convicted for life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court in ransom-cum-murder case.

Sharing details, DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam said it was known that the accused, Manoj, was active on Instagram.

“Building on this, two of our head constables - Dinesh and Sukhbir - created a fake account on Instagram and pretended to be a Mumbai-based model,” the DCP said.

The police personnel continued chatting with the accused over several weeks and finally managed to lure him to the Safderjung Enclave area of South Delhi for a rendezvous.

Expecting to meet the woman with whom he had been chatting for several months, Manoj fell right into the cops’ trap and was subsequently apprehended by the Crime Branch team. When frisked, the police found two sophisticated .32 bore pistols and eight live cartridges.

“The accused, Manoj, has a long history of committing heinous crimes and was involved and wanted by the Delhi, Haryana & Rajasthan Police in several heinous cases of murder and robbery. He killed one person in 2005 for not paying ransom and another one in 2014,” the officer said, adding that the authorities concerned had been informed about his arrest.
