CPM blames BJP, RSS for Delhi riots

Shimla, March 5

CPM Politburo member and ex-MP Subhashini Ali today said the Delhi riots were engineered by the BJP-RSS combine to instill fears among the public after the BJP faced stiff opposition on the CAA-NPR-NCR issue.

Addressing a press conference here, Ali further declared that the Left and like-minded people would continue to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) as long as these were not withdrawn.

She said the CAA, NPR and NRC eroded the basic principles of the Constitution, which states that religion cannot be a basis for granting citizenship to its citizens.

Accompanied by CPM, state leaders Rakesh Singha, Dr Kuldip Tanwar and Sanjay Chauhan, Ali was here for campaigning against the CAA-NPR-NRC in the state. The campaign would conclude with a countrywide protest on March 23, the day celebrated as the Shaheedi Diwas of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Ali came down heavily against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, alleging that they were promoting the Hindu rashtra agenda.

Ali said Modi and Amit Shah were giving conflicting statements on NPR and NRC that had created confusion among minorities.— TNS
