The body of a 28-year-old man with a criminal history was discovered in a jungle near Kusumpur Pahadi in South-West Delhi, officials said on Saturday.
The police identified the deceased as Naveen, a resident of Kusumpur Pahadi. He was known to be a bad character (BC) of the Vasant Vihar police station and had multiple cases registered against him.
Officials said they received an information at the Vasant Kunj North police station regarding an unidentified body lying in the jungle near Johar, E Block, on February 21. The Station House Officer (SHO), along with his staff, rushed to the location. The police found a partially submerged body in a sewage drain approximately 40-45 feet deep at the backside of E Block, Kusumpur Pahadi. Local inquiries led to the identification of the deceased.
The police also learned that Naveen had been missing since February 16, 2025, and a missing person report had been lodged at the same police station.
“He was addicted to alcohol and drugs and had a criminal history,” the official added.
The crime team inspected the scene before shifting the body to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“Statements of family members and neighbours were recorded. No foul play has been suspected so far,” another official said.
The police said they had begun proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigations were on.
