Cybercrimes, climate change new threats to human rights, says Prez
Highlighting cybercrimes and climate change as emerging threats to human rights, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said the culprit could even be a non-human but intelligent agent in view of the growing significance of artificial intelligence (AI).
“As we progress into the future, we are confronted with emerging challenges. Cybercrimes and climate change are new threats to human rights. The digital era, while transformative, has brought with it complex issues such as cyberbullying, deepfake, privacy concerns and the spread of misinformation,” President Murmu said, addressing the Human Rights Day event organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) here.
In a related event, CJI Sanjiv Khanna batted for a compassionate and humane justice system by decolonisation of laws and reformation of criminal courts. He was speaking during an event on Human Rights Day organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
He termed human rights as the bedrock of human society, imperative to ensure global peace. “We have decriminalised a number of laws, but a lot of work is still in progress,” he said.
