New Delhi, August 25
The Supreme Court on Wednesday asks the Delhi HC to decide in two weeks a petition challenging the appointment of Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as Delhi Police Commissioner.
Adjourning the hearing on a PIL filed by the Centre for PIL (CPIL), a Bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said, “In the meanwhile, we request the Delhi HC to consider hearing the writ petition…, which is pending adjudication before it, as early as possible and preferably within two weeks from today to enable us to have the benefit of the judgment of the said court.” It said, “If the petitioner (CPIL) wants to file any intervention application in the matter pending before the HC and/or to assist the said court, it will be at liberty to do so.” — TNS
