Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has accused former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of exploiting the Covid-19 crisis for personal profit and corruption.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Sachdeva, along with MOS Ravneet Singh Bittu, claimed that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged people to serve the nation during the pandemic, Kejriwal focused on making personal gains through property transactions and other scandals.

Sachdeva specifically pointed to a property deal involving Kejriwal’s associate, Gopal Mohan, who allegedly bought a flat for Rs 2.44 crore at 32 Aradhana Enclave, RK Puram, in July 2021, during the peak of the pandemic. The flat was purchased in the name of Mohan’s mother, Veena Kumari, and was reportedly sold for a significant profit after receiving expedited approval for additional construction.

Sachdeva suggested that Kejriwal, through his influence, facilitated these property dealings to avoid scrutiny. He claimed that Mohan’s Aadhaar card and bank account were registered at the AAP office address in New Delhi, ensuring all property documents were kept under Kejriwal’s control.

“Gopal Mohan’s rise to such wealth during an economic crisis raises serious questions. How did he afford a property of this value, and why was the approval for additional construction granted so swiftly?” questioned Sachdeva. He further accused Kejriwal of using his associate to conceal his own financial dealings, stating that the AAP leader’s income had increased by 40 times during the pandemic.

In addition to this property scandal, Sachdeva reiterated previous accusations of corruption surrounding Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and the liquor policy, both of which, the BJP leader claimed, Kejriwal had failed to explain.

The BJP has called for a thorough investigation into the property transaction and demanded that Kejriwal provide a detailed explanation of how his associate, Gopal Mohan, was able to make such significant financial gains during a global crisis.
