Delhi BJP chief accuses former CM of manipulating voters’ list

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has accused former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of orchestrating a large-scale voter fraud ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Sachdeva alleged that Kejriwal and his party were manipulating the voters’ list by creating fake Muslim votes using forged Aadhaar cards and other documents.

“We have evidence that Arvind Kejriwal is trying to rig the elections by adding fake votes to the voters’ list,” said Sachdeva. “History shows that lakhs of Muslim votes are added before every Assembly election. This time, despite restrictions, online voter applications with Muslim names are being submitted daily,” he said.

During the press conference, Sachdeva presented testimonies from Hindu homeowners in Delhi’s Tughlakabad constituency who revealed that several Muslim names had been added to their addresses in the voters’ list without their knowledge.

Six residents, including Mohit Mavi, Ankur, Deepak and Niranjan Bidhuri, from Tughlakabad spoke about how their addresses were linked to fraudulent voter registrations.

For instance, Mavi’s home, which has only five legitimate voters, was linked to seven additional fake votes, all under Muslim names. Similarly, at Ankur’s address in Tehkhand, 10 legitimate voters were listed alongside 14 fraudulent ones. Deepak, a resident from another area, said his house, with only five voters, was linked to 60 additional fake votes.

“These fraudulent registrations are not just numbers, they are an assault on democracy. Kejriwal has been running this fake voter scheme for the past 10 years to manipulate elections and come to the power,” Sachdeva said.

Sachdeva also pointed out that prior to the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections, 14 lakh voters were added to the list in just eight months. The figure increased from 1.19 crore in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to 1.33 crore in the 2015 Assembly elections. Similarly, the list saw an increase of 9 lakh voters before the 2020 Assembly elections.

“We are seeing a repeat of this pattern now,” Sachdeva claimed. “Though the BJP managed to block some fraudulent applications this time, several fake voter registration forms are still being submitted online,” he said.

He also raised concern over voter IDs being issued to individuals who are no longer alive, have left the city or never resided in Delhi. “It’s clear that there’s widespread forgery in the creation of fake voter IDs,” Sachdeva said, holding up a list of names of newly enrolled voters, many of whom were aged between 38 and 80, with no apparent legitimacy.

Sachdeva also presented examples from other areas, including Kalkaji’s Navjeevan Camp. “At Himanshu’s residence, which has five legitimate voters, 55 fake names were added to the voters’ list. This is happening across Delhi,” he said.

The Delhi Election Commission has already registered an FIR at the Shaheen Bagh police station against four persons - Jameel Alam, Kishunik, Mohammed Naeem and Shabana Khatoon - allegedly involved in the fake voter registration. “We have already seen arrests made, but this is just the tip of the iceberg,” Sachdeva said, urging the Election Commission to expand its investigation.

Sachdeva concluded his remarks by accusing Kejriwal of undermining democracy and engaging in illegal activities to secure electoral victories. “This is the true face of Kejriwal," Sachdeva said.

"We will not let him manipulate the system. We want the Election Commission to conduct an investigation and take legal action against all those involved in these fraudulent activities," he said.
