Delhi: BJP’s Anurag Thakur slams Atishi over video clip of victory celebration
BJP leader Anurag Thakur on Sunday criticised outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi after a leaked video clip allegedly showed her dancing in celebration following her victory in the Kalkaji constituency. Thakur alleged that Atishi was celebrating the failure of AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal's attempt to engineer her defeat in the elections.
The video, which has since gone viral, reportedly shows Atishi dancing after her win. Thakur claimed that the leaked footage highlighted the internal rifts within the AAP, noting that Atishi was among the few AAP leaders to emerge victorious while other key figures, including Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, lost their seats.
Thakur criticised Kejriwal's leadership, alleging, "Arvind Kejriwal came into politics by climbing on the shoulders of Anna Hazare, only to later sideline him and finish off the founding members of his own party. Kejriwal's team worked against senior AAP leaders and ministers, but in the end, Kejriwal himself faced the consequences."
Thakur continued, claiming that Atishi had been deliberately sidelined by Kejriwal during the election campaign. "Atishi's name was missing from election banners, posters, and the entire campaign. Attempts were made to defeat her in her own constituency. That's why you saw her dancing in the leaked video," Thakur added.
Thakur further argued that Atishi's celebration was a reflection of her happiness over the defeat of Kejriwal and Sisodia, stating, "Atishi, like many other Delhiites, was expressing her joy over the loss of the former Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister."
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva also weighed in on the issue, commenting on the leaked video. He remarked, "Atishi should introspect about why she is celebrating when prominent leaders of her own party lost the election. What is there to celebrate?"
