Delhi Budget: Smart classrooms, language labs, free laptops to boost learning
Prioritising education, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing government schools and colleges in the city. The Delhi Government has allocated substantial funds for the establishment of smart classrooms, language laboratories, computer labs and free laptops for top-performing students.
A Budget of Rs 50 crore has been set aside to set up 175 new computer labs in government schools as per the norms laid down by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
In a move to promote multilingual learning, the government will also establish Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Language Laboratories in 100 government schools. These labs will leverage modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to teach multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Sanskrit, French, German and Spanish.
“Rs 21 crore has been proposed for the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Language Laboratories scheme in the Budget,” CM Gupta stated.
Additionally, the government has announced the introduction of smart classrooms for students in Classes IX to XII, covering 7,000 classrooms in a phased manner. In the first phase, around 2,000 classrooms will be converted into digital learning spaces with interactive panels, audio-visual aids and internet connectivity. The government has earmarked Rs 100 crore for this initiative.
Recognising academic excellence, the BJP-led Delhi government has also committed Rs 7.5 crore to provide free laptops to 1,200 top-performing students based on their Class X board results.
In addition to education reforms, the Delhi Government also announced the plans to establish two new medical colleges to strengthen healthcare services and create employment opportunities in the medical sector.
“We will establish two medical colleges to improve health services in Delhi. This will provide high-quality medical education and create new employment opportunities for youths in the medical field,” CM Gupta stated.
