Delhi CM Rekha Gupta accorded Z-category CRPF security after attack
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has accorded 'Z' category security cover, consisting of CRPF personnel, to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the aftermath of the assault incident on her on Wednesday.
According to MHA sources, the new security arrangements were put in place on Wednesday evening. Earlier, Gupta was under the security cover of Delhi Police.
The decision was taken after a review of the security arrangements provided to the Chief Minister.
Gupta was attacked during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ at her residence on Wednesday by a man from Gujarat, who was attending the public meeting posing as a complainant.
During the interaction, the man, identified as 41-year-old Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakariya, approached the Chief Minister, handed her some papers and then suddenly held her hand and tried to pull her hair. However, he was overpowered by people.
The Delhi Police has slapped ‘attempt to murder’ charges on him.
A person with ‘Z’ category protection is assigned 18 to 20 personnel, which include personal security officers, escorts and a pilot.
A ‘Z plus’ protectee has double the number of personnel in ‘Z category’, along with enhanced security arrangements for their residence and cavalcade.
