Delhi CM Rekha Gupta gets 'Z' category security cover
BJP MLA Rekha Gupta, who was sworn-in as Delhi Chief Minister on Thursday, has been accorded 'Z' category security by the Delhi Police on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, a senior officer confirmed to The Tribune.
Security arrangements for Members of Parliament, Chief Ministers, and other dignitaries are provided as per the guidelines laid down in the 'Yellow Book', primarily based on the comprehensive assessment of threats carried out by the security agencies.
The Delhi Police have already stepped up the security arrangements outside CM Rekha Gupta’s residence in Shalimar Bagh, from where she has been elected as the legislator.
'Z' category security includes a detail of 22 personnel, including 4-6 CAPF commandos (ITBP and CRPF) and Delhi Police personnel.
Gupta will be guarded round-the-clock by three Personal Security Officers (PSOs) who will work in 8 to 9 hour shifts, rotating their duties.
Under this security cover, Gupta will have a convoy of 5 vehicles, with at least one bullet-proof car in which she will travel.
Former chief minister Atishi was also given 'Z' category security by the Delhi Police on the directions of the MHA.
Former Congress CM Sheila Dikshit also had 'Z' category security during her 15-year tenure.
Meanwhile, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal still has 'Z+' security cover with a comprehensive protection detail comprising 63 personnel, including a pilot, escort teams, close protection staff, and search-and-frisk units. The security cover was provided to him based on the threat perception.
