Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday attended a special registration ceremony organised by the Delhi Bar Council, where around 1,400 new advocates were formally inducted into the legal fraternity. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the CM called upon the newly enrolled lawyers to uphold the values of the Constitution and become torchbearers of justice.

“Today, all advocates present here are not just being registered but are also pledging a lifelong commitment to justice, truth, and the values of the Constitution,” Gupta said. “Advocates are the voice of a conscious society, and each of you carries the responsibility of delivering justice to the last person in line.”

The event was attended by MLAs Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Rai, Vice-Chairman of the Bar Council of India Ved Prakash Sharma and several prominent members of the judiciary.

In her address, CM Gupta emphasised that an advocate’s role went beyond representing clients in court. “A true advocate protects not only their client’s rights but also upholds the spirit of the Constitution and strengthens the public’s faith in the judicial system,” she said. She urged the new lawyers to work towards justice, equality, and peace, both within and beyond the courtroom.

Touching on the evolving legal landscape, she noted that the profession was undergoing a transformative phase due to emerging legal domains, rapid technological change and the growing importance of digital platforms. She expressed confidence that the new generation of legal professionals would meet these challenges with courage, skill and ethical integrity.

Highlighting reforms introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, she pointed to the repeal of outdated laws and the digitalisation of judicial processes aimed at making justice delivery more citizen-friendly.

Reaffirming the Delhi Government’s commitment to strengthening judicial infrastructure, the CM announced that Rs 4,200 crore had been allocated for law and judiciary in the 2025–26 Budget. Of this, Rs 927 crore has been earmarked for judicial schemes, Rs 490 crore for expanding court complexes in Shastri Park, Karkardooma and Rohini, and Rs 200 crore for implementing the hybrid court system.

Congratulating the new advocates, CM Gupta concluded, “This is not merely a career milestone — it is the beginning of your responsibility to keep the flame of justice burning.”
