Delhi cops, forensic lab to strengthen coordination after L-G’s approval
After an approval by Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena, the Delhi Police and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) will co-ordinate to strengthen forensic examination materials and to ensure timely investigation, sources said on Wednesday. The coordination committee will be headed by the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), they added.
It will also review the functioning of the ‘e-forensic 2.0’ system. The committee will include high ranking officials from the Delhi Police, the FSL and other departments.
Members include Director of Delhi FSL; Joint CPs/Additional CPs of ranges, including Transport and Special Cell; Deputy CPs of Crime, Special Cell, Metro, IGI, Railway, Vigilance, and Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC); and DCP and ADCPs of all districts.
Senior officials from the Delhi Government’s Home Department, not below the rank of Deputy Secretary, will also serve as members of the committee.
ACP (Crime) will act as member secretary.
The committee will be mandated to meet at least once a month to address issues, suggest improvements and to propose recommendations. It can also co-opt external experts for specialised discussions.
Sources added that the Principal Secretary (Home) will convene a review meeting at least once a quarter with the Delhi Police and the FSL to assess progress and address any critical issues or interventions, if required.
