Rain brings temporary relief from pollution
New Delhi, December 8
The city witnessed light rainfall in several areas during the evening, marking a shift in the weather and providing some respite from air pollution.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded its second-lowest daytime temperature of the winter season on Sunday, with the maximum temperature dropping to 23.7 ° celsius, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This was slightly lower than the 25.4 degrees celsius recorded on Saturday and just above the season’s lowest maximum temperature of 23.5 ° degrees, observed on November 18.
The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 302 on Sunday, falling in the ‘very poor’ category. This is a notable decline from the ‘moderate’ AQI levels observed earlier this month.
The IMD had predicted very light rainfall or drizzle in isolated parts of Delhi, including areas such as Indira Gandhi International Airport, Vasant Kunj, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Kalkaji, Mehrauli, Tughlaqabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Aya Nagar, and Deramandi. Other regions in the National Capital Region (NCR), including Noida, Gurugram, Manesar, and Farukhnagar in Haryana, are also likely to experience mild rainfall on Monday evening. Additionally, the IMD has forecast foggy conditions for Monday morning, which may impact visibility and traffic movement in the city. — TNS
