According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a maximum temperature of 27.3°C and a minimum of 11.8°C on Saturday. Earlier this month, the IMD had suggested a stronger-than-usual drop in temperatures, but the anticipated cold spell has so far failed to materialise.
Officials expect a gradual decline in mercury levels over the coming days. Sunday is likely to feel similar to Saturday, with the IMD forecasting a maximum of 26°C and a minimum of 11°C. A more noticeable dip is expected from Monday, when the maximum is predicted to fall to 25°C and the minimum to 10°C.
The cooling trend is likely to strengthen further next week. On Tuesday, temperatures may range between 9°C and 25°C, followed by Wednesday, when the minimum is expected to remain at 9°C and the maximum to drop to 24°C.
Despite the relatively mild winter chill, pollution levels in the Capital remain alarming. Delhi’s air quality continued to stay in the ‘very poor’ category, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 370 at 4 pm on Saturday.
