New Delhi, February 17
The Sikh Forum, a Delhi-based non-political organisation comprising Sikh professionals, academicians, senior retired defence officers and bureaucrats, has expressed deep concern over the spread of hatred directed towards the Sikh community amidst the ongoing farm protests. The forum noted that several social media accounts and television channels are propagating hate against Sikhs, and even the term ‘Khalistani’ briefly trended on X during the current week.
According to the forum, these actions are carried out by vested interests and motivated individuals to target the protesting farmers. The Supreme Court has recognised peaceful protests as legitimate means of expressing public concerns and seeking resolution from the State.
The forum emphasised that the participation of Sikh leaders and individuals in the protests does not justify targeting and spreading hatred against the Sikh community or Punjab as a state of the Indian Union. They said such propaganda only serves to aid hostile forces.
