Delhi Govt distributes assistive devices among persons with disabilities
In a bid to empower persons with disabilities and promote inclusive development, Delhi’s Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST Welfare, Elections and Cooperation Ravinder Indraj Singh distributed tricycles and a range of assistive devices under the Sugamya Sahayak Yojana on Saturday.
The distribution event was held at the District Social Welfare Office (North-East) in Dilshad Garden, where beneficiaries received motorised tricycles, hearing aids, walkers, Braille kits, smartphones, smart sticks and other essential aids designed to improve mobility and daily functioning.
Speaking at the event, Minister Singh said the initiative aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an ‘Empowered Divyang, Capable India’, and reiterated the Delhi Government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified, self-reliant life for persons with disabilities (PwDs).
“The Delhi Government is working consistently to empower persons with disabilities not just through assistive devices, but also by facilitating access to housing, public transport and employment,” he said.
The minister added that both the Central and Delhi governments were jointly committed to fostering self-confidence, social inclusion and self-reliance for PwDs.
Several beneficiaries, who received their devices at the event, shared that such efforts have made their lives significantly easier and given them renewed hope. They thanked the authorities for ensuring consistent support and for recognising their needs in public policy.
