Delhi Govt plans to revamp unplanned industrial areas
New Delhi, July 17
Industries Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj met representatives from factory owner associations in 27 different industrial areas at the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday to discuss the development and maintenance of these areas. Senior officials from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) were also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, Bharadwaj emphasised the Delhi Government’s commitment to developing and maintaining the 27 unplanned industrial areas. He said, “The government has been collaborating with trade organisations for a long time to enhance these areas and has introduced a scheme for their revamp.”
Under the scheme, 90 per cent of the costs associated with the layout plan for the development of these industrial areas will be covered by the Delhi Government, while 10 per cent will be the responsibility of the factory owners. This ensures a shared responsibility between the government and trade organisations in these industrial areas.
Brijesh Goyal, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry, requested the minister to consider reducing the high fees for Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) map approvals in these 27 unplanned industrial areas. He noted that there are 29 authorised industrial areas and 27 unplanned ones in Delhi. “Factory owners in these unplanned areas have requested the government to include the cost of MCD map approvals under the scheme,” he added.
Bharadwaj agreed to this demand and instructed officials to consider a policy that aligns map approval fees with the government’s scheme.
Vijay Virmani, president of the Delhi Manufacturing Federation, welcomed the Delhi Government’s initiative during the meeting. He pointed out that small factories in areas like Dabri, Khayala, Nawada, Peeragarhi, Rithala and Samaypur Badli support the livelihoods of thousands. “These small industrial areas are vital for the livelihoods of millions of families. This initiative is a step towards making their lives easier and more comfortable,” he said.
Virmani added that the development of these industrial areas would not only benefit the trading community but also promote industries, create new job opportunities and improve Delhi’s economy.
